Facebook Nearby: This Week in Social Media

    by Cindy King / December 22, 2012

social media researchWelcome to our weekly edition of what's hot in social media news.

To help you stay up to date with social media, here are some of the news items that caught our attention.

    What's New This Week?

Facebook Announces Nearby:  Facebook's new Nearby for iOS and Android apps makes it easy to discover new places your friends like. This provides more reasons for local businesses to build a Facebook Page and offers users an alternative to Foursquare.

"From the app menu, open the tab to find local spots your friends have recommended, checked into or liked."

Twitter Rolls Out Ability to Download Your Twitter Archive: “You'll get all your tweets (including retweets) going back to the beginning. Once you have your Twitter archive, you can view your tweets by month, or search your archive to find tweets with certain words, phrases, hashtags or @usernames. You can even engage with your old tweets just as you would with current ones.” This feature is rolling out slowly, so you may not see it yet.
